Colin, Mommy & Daddy went on our first family camping trip to stay at the Aspen campgrounds in Forrest Lakes, AZ. The campsite was about 2 hours away and the temps were in the 70's. We left on Saturday after lunch and Colin did great, sleeping the entire time in the car. He woke up and said ohh trees rocks! We hit the general store for some rain supplies and then headed to our campsite and Daddy had to get started on getting things set up. Our first interesting mishap was that our queen air mattress would not hold air, thankfully Daddy had brought a twin and a small air pad. Colin was not sure what to think at first he kept saying go home go home! After everything was set up we headed to the lake for some fishing. Colin caught a crawdad..and thought they were pretty interesting. Colin had more fun playing in the dirt and rocks. Then we headed back to camp where Daddy whipped up hot dogs, chili, grilled cheese and tomato soup. Colin had chicken, veggies, and a plain hot dog bun filled with ketcup. Yum Yum. We then had smores. Colin thought it was a lot of fun running around in the dark with his flash light and looking at the stars! Colin & Mommy then headed down for the night, before Mommy noticed Colin was fast asleep on the twin mattress. We had set it up where Daddy slept by the door (Mommy was afraid someone would come in) and Mommy by the back wall and Colin in the middle. The temps were really cold so Mommy thought she would just let Colin sleep on the air mattress. Did I mention that sleeping with a 2 year old is horrible and certainly in a sleeping bag on a twin mattress. Colin moved all night! One thing was for sure he was not cold! Around 1am Mommy woke Daddy to ask what the noise was...it was rain and it was coming to us! It rained for several hours. Mommy got dripped on once...Colin was none the wiser as he was asleep twisting turning and moving but still fast asleep. Wow was it cold! Around 6am Colin woke up and we noticed the spot where he was suppose to sleep was soaking wet...thank goodness he was on dryland with Mommy. After damp firewood and a lot of water Daddy tossed his uncooked eggs and we headed home. All in all it was a good first family camping trip!
