Because Colin still has in his feeding tube he had to be moved from the room yesterday to another pod room that is brand new to the NICU about 2 weeks ago. Colin is styling now in his own private room. Since he was 1 nurse (who cares for 3 babies) he was put back on the heart monitors. The room is equipped with a mini fridge for "mom's" milk and a couch. I am SO lucky to start being able to stay the night with my little guy which I will start tonight. He is at the stage they call "feeder and grower" meaning that the idea is to have him feeding 40-60 cc on his own and getting bigger, he is at 4 lbs 9 1/2 oz yesterday. The staff call it the light bulb effect where he just starts to get the process of feeding. Right now he is doing about 15-20 cc on his own and then gets just too tired, we then tube feed the rest. His Pediatrician says that he is moving along but it needs to be at his pace. Colin is on photo therapy today for his jaundice which is really elevated. He has this light therapy all day today, which means he has a 20 minute break where mommy and daddy need to take his temp, change the diaper, tube feed him, and love him within 20 minutes and then he has to go back under the light. They will take a look at him again at 6pm tonight and retest him to see how he is doing.
